Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

Use our FAQs to find out answers to the most commonly asked questions

AnswerWhy might I be due a tax refund?

If you have ever changed employment within the year, worn a uniform to perform your job, paid subscription/union fees and/or been issued with a non-generic tax code (or an emergency code) – you may be eligible for a large tax refund.

AnswerWhat allowances can I claim?

You are entitled to tax relief for certain subscription/union fees, for washing your own uniform and for tools & equipment that you have purchased to perform your job. You can also claim a tax deduction for purchasing your own uniform/shoes which is used exclusively to perform your job.

AnswerHow much am I due back?

Select your industry in the ‘Claim’ section of our website to receive your instant tax refund estimate.

AnswerDo I need to complete a separate claim form for each employment?

No, you can fill out all your employments (present & past) on the same claim form when it arrives in the post.

AnswerDo you ask for bank details via email or SMS?

We NEVER request bank details. If you have received an email or SMS which has requested any information in relation to your bank account, then please delete immediately.

AnswerDoesn’t my employer include these deductions?

Not necessarily. It is the taxpayers responsibility to ensure that all tax relief has been correctly claimed and included in his/her tax code.

AnswerDo I need to notify my employer about my claim?

No. This is a matter between the taxpayer and the tax office only.

AnswerCan I claim for previous years?

Yes. You can claim tax relief for the last four years.

AnswerHow long does it take to receive my refund?

Approximately 8 to 12 weeks. A claim for work related expenses or a request for additional information from the tax office may impact the processing time.

AnswerHow do I make a claim?

Simply follow the steps in the ‘Claim’ section of the website and with a few clicks of your mouse you will be on your way to receiving your tax refund.

AnswerWhat if I don’t have a printer to print out my claim form?

You do not need to print your form. We automatically send out your form in the post as soon as we receive your online application.

AnswerI have received an assessment from HMRC but not a cheque?

HMRC will send you an assessment for each tax year that you are due a refund. The final amount due will be shown on the most recent assessment (previous years refunds are carried forward to the most recent year claimed). We will send you a cheque within 3 weeks from the date of your assessment less our fees – as detailed in our fees section.

AnswerWhat are your charges?

We operate on a no win, no fee basis. This means that if you are not due a tax refund, there is no fee for our service. We will give you the peace of mind in knowing that your tax code has been reviewed and is correct – all for FREE. Any refunds received incur a fee of 25% (plus VAT) of the refund secured (subject to a minimum admin fee of £25 plus VAT). There are NO hidden fees. You will receive 100% of the increase to your net pay going forward.

With nothing to lose, and only to gain….we feel compelled to use the old classic cliché – “It’s a no brainer”.

AnswerWhat is VAT?

VAT is a government tax of 20% on all our services. This is a charge calculated on our fee, not on your entire refund.

AnswerI think I may have done a claim in the past, is it worth doing again?

Tax codes change every year, so it’s definitely worth doing another claim just to be sure you are receiving all of your entitlements. It’s a free service, so there is nothing to lose.

AnswerWhat does a flat rate expense deduction mean?

This means an amount of money that a taxpayer can get tax relief on. For example, the minimum deduction for the cost of washing your uniform is £60 per year. This means that if you pay tax at the basic rate band of 20%, then you are due a refund of £12 (£60 x 20%). A higher rate taxpayer would be due a refund of £24 (£60 x 40%).

AnswerWill I get 4 refunds if I have received 4 tax calculations?

No. The ‘Repayment Due’ on page 2 of your most recent tax calculation is your actual refund. The previous years ‘repayments’ have been carried forward to the current year.

AnswerCan I make a tax claim if I have left the UK?

Provided you have worked and paid tax in the UK within the last 4 years, you are still eligible to make a claim.
